Three additional prosecutors resign from Eric Adams case, asserting innocence following suspensions

Three federal prosecutors, Celia Cohen, Andrew Rohrbach, and Derek Wikstrom, have chosen to resign instead of admitting wrongdoing following suspensions over their handling of a federal corruption case against NYC Mayor Eric Adams. The prosecutors were suspended after they refused to take part in dropping the prosecution against Adams, who is now running for re-election as an independent. The move to drop the case was seen as favoring Adams’ cooperation with the Trump administration’s immigration priorities. Former acting U.S. attorney Danielle R. Sassoon and several members of the Justice Department also resigned over the decision. The lawyers who resigned this week stated in a letter that they will not admit wrongdoing when there was none, and they will not abandon their principles for the sake of keeping their jobs. They criticized the Justice Department for prioritizing obedience over legal and ethical obligations and expressed their commitment to doing the right thing for the right reasons. With these resignations, at least 10 lawyers have left the Justice Department in connection with the fallout from the Adams case. The Justice Department has not commented on the resignations.
