Monadnock Ledger-Transcript – Opinions: Bill Frantz – Immigrants are an Integral Part of New Hampshire’s Fabric

On April 23rd at 7 p.m., the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript and Monadnock Center for History and Culture will be hosting a Community Conversation titled “Immigration and the Monadnock Region” at the Monadnock Center in Peterborough. The event will feature presentation from David Blair, Peter Leishman, and Ciaran Nagle on their experiences with immigration in the region. Adar Cohen will moderate the conversation, which will include audience questions and discussions.

The event was triggered by a recent raid on a local restaurant by ICE, prompting a discussion on immigration policies in the area. Foreign-born residents account for 6.8% of New Hampshire’s population, with Canada, India, the Dominican Republic, China, and the United Kingdom being the top countries of birth for immigrants in the state. Foreign-born workers make up 7% of New Hampshire’s workforce, with high representation in industries like manufacturing, professional services, and healthcare.

The conversation will provide background information from the three main speakers, followed by an open discussion. The event is free and open to all, with the goal of fostering understanding and perspective on immigration in the Monadnock Region.
