Tragic Mobile Home Fire Claims Life of 75-Year-Old in Unity, NH

UNITY, N.H. — Fire officials have identified the victim of a tragic mobile home fire in Sullivan County, New Hampshire, as 75-year-old Michael Maco of Unity. The fire erupted Sunday evening at a mobile home on Quaker City Road, and by the time the Unity Fire Department arrived, the structure was fully engulfed in flames.

Responding quickly, six neighboring departments, including Charlestown, Goshen, Newport, Claremont, Acworth, and Lempster, provided mutual aid to control the blaze. Other fire units stood by to cover the Unity station during the emergency.

Tragically, Maco’s body was discovered inside the home. An autopsy revealed that he succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning, leading officials to classify his death as accidental. As of now, the cause of the fire remains undetermined, and authorities are continuing their investigation to ascertain both where the fire originated and what may have triggered it.

This incident emphasizes the dangers associated with mobile home fires, particularly the risks of carbon monoxide exposure. Community members are urged to ensure their homes are equipped with working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as investigations into this fire proceed.
