Manchester, NH – A man injured in a shootout with police at the Fairfield Inn on South Porter Street remains in critical condition, according to local authorities. Identified as 50-year-old John Tibbs from Alton, he is facing serious charges, including three counts of attempted murder and reckless conduct.

The incident unfolded Saturday afternoon around 4:20 p.m., when hotel staff reported that Tibbs was refusing to leave his room after checkout. Upon responding, officers encountered Tibbs, who allegedly opened fire as they approached. In response, the police returned fire, striking him, but fortunately, no officers were harmed.

Manchester Police Chief Peter Marr commended his officers for their prompt and courageous response. "Our officers faced a sudden and life-threatening situation and acted quickly and professionally to defend themselves and protect others," he stated. "They followed their training and provided medical aid to the suspect without hesitation."

The investigation into the shooting is being conducted by the New Hampshire State Police, with support from the Attorney General’s Office, which continues to gather details surrounding the event.

As the investigation progresses, authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. The situation remains ongoing as both the health status of Tibbs and the outcome of the investigation develop.
