Teenager Missing Near Diamond Island on Lake Winnipesaukee
GILFORD, N.H. — Authorities continue their search for a teenager reported missing near Diamond Island on Lake Winnipesaukee. The incident occurred Friday afternoon when a person, who entered the water from a boat around 12:45 p.m., failed to resurface.
New Hampshire State Police’s Marine Patrol received the alert, prompting an immediate response from local fire crews in Gilford and Alton, as well as Marine Patrol officers and Fish and Game officials. When a WMUR news crew arrived at the scene just after 2 p.m., they witnessed a significant number of emergency personnel stationed and actively engaged in search efforts.
Fish and Game officials reported deploying a side-scan sonar team to assist in the operation, while a dive team remained on standby. As of 8 p.m. the same day, state police indicated that the search is ongoing, with no updates on the teenager’s whereabouts.
The situation has raised concerns within the community, highlighting the risks associated with water activities. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.
