Hampshire Cricket Unveils 2025 Men’s Academy Roster
Hampshire Cricket has officially announced its men’s academy intake for 2025, retaining six players from the previous year while introducing two newcomers. The retained players include Sam Ashman, Zack Basey, Oli Cordery, Finn Gordon, Manny Lumsden, and Ben Mayes. Oliver Williams and Ibrahim Zafar will join the academy for the first time, adding fresh talent to the lineup.
Head of Player Development Charlie Freeston expressed enthusiasm for this year’s cohort, stating, "This is an exceptional group of young lads, with a real hunger and desire to do great things in the game." He emphasized their drive and work ethic, predicting high levels of performance in the upcoming season. The academy has benefitted from a productive winter, and Freeston looks forward to seeing how these players can lead various Hampshire teams to victory.
From last year’s class, all-rounder Dom Kelly and pace bowler Eddie Jack have successfully graduated and secured rookie contracts. However, three players—Ethan Baker, Andrew MacEwan, and Louis Prichard—have been released from the program.
Notably, Mayes and graduate Jack showcased their skills during the winter by representing England Men’s U19s, where they achieved victory in the Youth Test against South Africa. The academy’s legacy is strong, having produced several key members of the Hampshire men’s squad, including Liam Dawson, Tom Prest, and Joe Weatherley.
The academy recently completed a successful tour to Guernsey in mid-April, winning two out of four matches. Hampshire Cricket is poised for an exciting 2025 season, with this promising group ready to make its mark.
