New Citizens Celebrate Naturalization in Concord, NH
Concord, NH – In a heartfelt ceremony on Friday, 25 individuals from 17 countries officially became American citizens at the State Archives in Concord. New Hampshire’s Secretary of State, David Scanlan, emphasized the importance of diversity in strengthening the nation, while Governor Kelly A. Ayotte congratulated the new citizens on successfully navigating a complex immigration process.
Among those celebrating was Nabil Souidi, originally from Algeria, who shared his relief at attaining citizenship after avoiding travel due to fears of complications. “We’re all Americans now,” said his wife, Nesrine Bouziane, who documented the moment with their young son. The family is now looking forward to visiting relatives without the previously pervasive anxiety.
Highlighting the emotional weight of the occasion, immigrant rights advocate Eva Castillo encouraged the new citizens to engage in their communities and vote, emphasizing the security citizenship provides amid increasing fears within immigrant communities.
Another recipient, Maykol Mamedes from Brazil, echoed the sentiment, stating, “You feel more secure” following his naturalization. His wife, Samantha, had been particularly apprehensive about their documentation process, especially during a delay in renewing his green card.
As the group celebrated their new status, with some families planning outings to mark the occasion, the atmosphere was one of hope and renewed possibility. The event signals a commitment to welcoming individuals from diverse backgrounds and underscores the significance of citizenship in fostering community and ensuring representation in the democratic process.
The ceremony, the second of its kind hosted by Scanlan, reflects New Hampshire’s ongoing efforts to honor immigration and the contributions of new Americans.
