Fatal Jefferson Crash Under Investigation by New Hampshire State Police

Concord, NH — New Hampshire State Police are currently investigating a tragic crash in Jefferson that occurred on Sunday morning, resulting in one fatality. At approximately 11:45 a.m., troopers responded to reports of a single-vehicle accident on Route 115. Upon arrival, they discovered a 2016 Honda CR-V off the roadway in a field, near Stag Hollow Road.

The driver, Stephen J. Gooden, 68, of Wentworth, was traveling south when he misnegotiated a curve. The vehicle veered down an embankment, striking a utility pole and a tree. Gooden sustained serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Unfortunately, his passenger, Maurice C. Sasse Jr., 70, from Silver Springs, Florida, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Michal Sventek, a public information officer for the state police, initial reports suggest a medical episode may have contributed to the crash; however, the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the accident or possesses relevant information to contact Trooper Conor Doyle at 603-715-7459.

This incident marks a somber reminder of the importance of road safety. As investigations continue, the community expresses condolences for the victim and his family.
