Pappas Proposes Legislation for Full-Service VA Hospital in New Hampshire

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Representative Chris Pappas has announced plans to introduce legislation aimed at establishing a full-service Veterans Affairs hospital in New Hampshire. This initiative is part of a long-standing effort to address the absence of such a facility in the state, which has not had a full-service designation since the VA Medical Center in Manchester lost its status 25 years ago. Currently, New Hampshire stands out as the only state in the continental U.S. lacking a full-service hospital for veterans.

Pappas emphasized the importance of this issue, stating, "It’s long been a priority of the veteran community and of me. We’re going to continue to work hard with anyone that will listen in Washington to help expand services in the healthcare delivery system for veterans here."

In response to the pressing need, the Trump administration has initiated a feasibility study to either enhance the existing Manchester facility or construct an entirely new hospital.

As Pappas gears up for a U.S. Senate campaign in 2026, his efforts regarding veterans’ healthcare have drawn scrutiny. A statement from the National Republican Senatorial Committee criticized his legislative track record, accusing him of obstructionism and failing to support bipartisan efforts that could benefit New Hampshire.
