Poll Shows Dismal Approval Ratings for Trump Across Key States
A recent poll reveals that two-thirds of voters in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island disapprove of President Donald Trump’s performance, with 55% indicating strong disapproval. Even in New Hampshire, known for competitive elections, only 35% approve of Trump’s leadership, while 64% express discontent.
The poll further highlights that 68% of respondents believe the country is on the "wrong track." Additionally, just 25% rate the economy as good or excellent—a significant drop from 41% in October 2022. Concerns are raised in light of layoffs and economic pullbacks, with many voters expressing frustration over Trump’s unfulfilled promises to improve economic conditions.
Mixed sentiments were evident regarding individual financial situations, as nearly 58% expressed confidence in job security. However, disapproval extended to Trump’s immigration policies, with 70% voicing dissatisfaction over how ICE has handled arrests and deportations, especially among Black and Hispanic communities.
Moreover, national Democratic leaders are not seen as a viable alternative, with 56% of voters rating their performance as poor. David Paleologos from Suffolk University noted that while opposition to Trump is prevalent, it does not translate into support for Democrats, indicating widespread pessimism.
Voters presented divergent views on how Democrats should respond to Trump’s actions—half suggested a case-by-case approach, while nearly 29% advocated for outright resistance. Concerns about international instability and the future of younger generations were echoed by those who initially supported Trump, emphasizing a growing unease.
Conducted from June 1 to June 5, the Suffolk/Globe poll shows a margin of error of ±3.1%. For more information, contact Matt Stout at matt.stout@globe.com.
