Boston Globe’s New Hampshire Team Shines at Excellence in Journalism Awards
MANCHESTER, N.H. — The Boston Globe’s New Hampshire team was celebrated at the New Hampshire Press Association’s annual Excellence in Journalism awards banquet on Thursday, receiving a total of six awards for their impactful reporting in 2024.
Steven Porter and Amanda Gokee were recognized for their in-depth coverage on transgender student athletes, securing second place. Their nuanced reporting included nearly a dozen articles, from legislative explainers to exclusive interviews, showcasing the struggles faced by these young advocates amid ongoing societal debates.
In a first-place finish, the duo also reported on protests at Dartmouth and UNH, providing timely updates on campus dynamics and police responses during a pivotal moment in May 2024.
Gokee’s investigation into hospital acquisitions in New Hampshire, which shed light on rising healthcare costs driven by hospital-owned practices, earned her a second-place award. Meanwhile, Porter’s coverage of New Hampshire’s Libertarian party dynamics was also acknowledged with a second place award, demonstrating the internal conflicts faced by political factions.
Additionally, social media manager Sadie Layher received recognition for her effective use of social platforms in amplifying the Globe’s coverage.
