Concord, NH – The latest data from the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) reveals that over half of the state’s roads are now classified in good condition, with approximately 31% rated as fair. This significant improvement is attributed to a decade-long focus on efficient data collection and strategic repaving programs.
NHDOT oversees roughly 4,600 miles of roads, utilizing advanced technology to monitor and assess pavement conditions. Matt Courser, an expert with over 13 years of experience in road design approval, emphasizes the importance of data in making informed decisions regarding road maintenance. “It’s like baking a cake,” Courser explains, highlighting the careful balance of materials required for optimal pavement performance.
Since the implementation of a three-year road outlook plan in 2014, the department has prioritized planning and maintenance, ensuring a sustainable approach to transportation infrastructure. Courser likens regular road maintenance to changing oil in a car—proactive measures extend the lifespan of the roads, preventing costly replacements.
Residents can expect to see ongoing evaluations, as road data is collected annually.
