Manchester Students Honored for Quick Thinking During Bus Emergency
MANCHESTER, NH — Two Memorial High School sophomores, Jadiel Mota and Rajahn Carrero, are being recognized for their heroic actions when their school bus driver fell ill on May 29. The driver, identified as Annese, radioed for assistance after feeling unwell and pulled the bus over.
Mota, who had witnessed similar emergencies before, quickly moved forward, communicating the bus’s precise location to dispatch. Carrero, a member of the Manchester Fire Department’s Junior Fire Explorers, kept the driver calm and gathered food and water from fellow students when he realized the driver had not eaten enough that day.
Carrero emphasized that the entire bus’s collective effort, including calling 911 and providing sustenance, significantly contributed to ensuring Annese’s well-being. He expressed gratitude towards his classmates, stating, “Without them helping, this situation could have been different.”
After receiving treatment for dehydration, Annese praised both students as well as the entire bus, stating that their quick responses were commendable.
Superintendent Jennifer Chmiel expressed relief regarding Annese’s recovery and lauded Mota and Carrero for their remarkable actions. The school district plans to formally recognize the students at an upcoming school board meeting. This incident exemplifies the power of teamwork and the importance of acting swiftly in emergencies.
