Celebrities Respond to LA Protest Against ICE Detention Policies

Artists Rally Against National Guard Deployment and ICE Raids in Los Angeles

Los Angeles, CA – October 6, 2025

In response to the recent deployment of the National Guard by President Donald Trump to Los Angeles, a wave of artistic activism has emerged among celebrities protesting against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation raids. Trump dispatched an additional 2,100 National Guard members and 700 U.S. Marines as part of Task Force 51 amidst ongoing unrest in the city.

Prominent figures such as Eva Longoria and Mark Ruffalo took to social media to voice their dissent. Longoria condemned the deployment as “Un-American,” while Ruffalo criticized the targeting of the poor and working-class communities, labeling it an oligarchic system, and calling Trump a “grifter.” His post gained significant traction, accumulating over 200,000 likes and endorsements from celebrities like Jennifer Garner and Halle Berry.

Musical artists joined the chorus, with Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong showcasing protest footage on Instagram and encapsulating his sentiment with a middle finger emoji. Tyler, The Creator vehemently expressed his opposition with a bold “FUCK ICE” on his Instagram Story, and singer-actress Reneé Rapp echoed rage against the administration’s actions.

Among the notable reactions was Oscar-winning musician Finneas, who attended a peaceful protest and claimed to have been tear-gassed by authorities. He further amplified the situation by reposting a clip of a reporter being injured by law enforcement.

The political fallout has been substantial, with California Governor Gavin Newsom announcing plans to sue the federal government, denouncing the deployment as unconstitutional. He argued that Trump’s orders not only affect California but could extend to any state, positioning the state against the federal overreach.

As tensions rise in Los Angeles, the unity of artists and activists underscores a growing resistance to federal immigration policies and actions perceived as oppressive.
