Press Release: Salmonella Outbreak Linked to California Egg Producer
Date: [Insert Date]
A salmonella outbreak tied to products from August Egg Company has left at least 79 individuals ill across nine states, according to recent reports from U.S. health officials. Of those affected, 21 required hospitalization. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) believes the actual number of cases may be significantly higher due to many individuals recovering without seeking medical attention.
In response, August Egg Company has voluntarily recalled approximately 1.7 million dozen eggs that may be contaminated. These organic and cage-free brown eggs, with sell-by dates from March 4, 2025, to June 4, 2025, were sold under various brand names, including Clover and Simple Truth, at major retailers like Walmart, Safeway, and Raley’s.
The CDC reports include evidence of two illness clusters linked to restaurants where the recalled eggs were served. San Diego health officials recently confirmed 37 cases of salmonella connected to dining establishments in the area, with investigations ongoing.
Symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, with most individuals recovering within a week. However, the disease poses greater risks for children, elderly, and immunocompromised individuals.
Consumers are advised to check their egg supplies for plant codes P-6562 or CA5330. Those possessing recalled eggs should discard them or return them to retailers.
