New Bedford Man Extradited to New Hampshire Following Fatal Crash
HAMPTON, N.H. (WPRI) — Keoma Duarte, a 40-year-old resident of New Bedford, has been extradited to New Hampshire in connection with a tragic incident on I-95 that claimed the life of Endicott College police sergeant Jeremy Cole. Authorities allege that Duarte drove his Tesla on the wrong side of the highway early on Thanksgiving morning in 2004 before colliding with Cole’s vehicle. The severe impact resulted in fatal injuries for the officer.
Duarte was charged with two felony counts of reckless conduct and one misdemeanor count of disobeying an officer, following the issuance of an extraditable arrest warrant in December. Last week, New Hampshire State Police identified that Duarte was incarcerated at the Bristol County Jail and House of Correction on these outstanding charges.
Upon his transfer to New Hampshire, Duarte was arraigned at the Hampton District Court on June 4. This case highlights significant concerns about roadway safety and reckless driving, especially incidents that lead to tragic outcomes for law enforcement personnel tasked with maintaining public safety.
This continuing investigation underscores the gravity of the allegations and anticipates further legal developments. The community mourns the loss of Officer Cole, a dedicated public servant whose life was cut short, and awaits justice following this distressing incident.
