Mitch Jebb and Nick Cimillo Shine Despite Altoona’s Setback Against New Hampshire
MANCHESTER, N.H. — The Altoona Curve struggled offensively in a 4-0 defeat against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in Eastern League action Tuesday night, managing only five hits. Mitch Jebb and Nick Cimillo were standout performers, contributing four of those hits.
On the mound, Altoona’s Alessandro Ercolani faced off against New Hampshire’s Ryan Watson for the first four innings. Ercolani limited the Fisher Cats to just three baserunners, giving up a solo home run to Jace Bohrofen in the second while striking out four. However, the Curve faltered in the fifth, as reliever Valentin Linarez allowed two runs, aided by a sacrifice bunt, a throwing error, and an RBI single from RJ Schreck, giving New Hampshire a 3-0 lead.
Watson showcased his skills, striking out a season-high nine batters and not walking anyone, leading to the victory. He, along with reliever Hunter Gregory, retired 17 consecutive batters at one point, stifling Altoona’s batting lineup.
Cimillo’s multi-hit performance marked his seventh of the season, boasting a .353 average over his last 17 games. The two teams continue their six-game series tonight at 6:35 p.m., with Altoona yet to announce their starting pitcher.
In roster updates, the Pirates have made several changes involving pitchers Blake Townsend, Tyler Samaniego, and Carlson Reed in their minor league rehabilitation assignments.
