Press Release: Four Charged in Connection with Drowning of 15-Year-Old in Raymond, NH
Raymond, NH – Four individuals have been charged following the tragic drowning of a 15-year-old boy in Governor’s Lake last month. The incident unfolded on April 26, when the canoe carrying the boy and other teenagers capsized, leading to a frantic search by local and state authorities. The boy was ultimately found submerged, approximately 30-60 feet from shore, and was not wearing a life jacket.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Raymond police reported that alcohol likely played a significant role in the tragic event. The arrested individuals include Kantilal Patel, 52, of East Boston, charged with counts related to underage alcohol sales; a juvenile facing charges of prohibited sales and unlawful possession; and Justin and Kaileigh Sargent, both of Raymond, charged with facilitating an underage party and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
All four individuals have been released on personal recognizance bail and are set to appear in Candia District Court in the coming weeks. Additionally, Karma Smoke & Beer Outlet in Raymond has been cited by the New Hampshire State Liquor Commission for its involvement in the incident, facing charges related to prohibited sales.
The tragic death serves as a solemn reminder of the dangers associated with alcohol and water safety for minors. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities urge the community to prioritize safety during recreational activities.
