Dover Emerges as New Hampshire’s Fastest-Growing City in Latest Census Report
DOVER, NH — According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s latest report, Dover has been recognized as the fastest-growing city in New Hampshire from 2023 to 2024, experiencing a growth rate of 1.21 percent, bringing its population to 33,909. The report indicates that myriad communities across the country have experienced growth, with some cities like Princeton, Texas, achieving a staggering 30.5 percent increase.
In New Hampshire, other notable growth figures include Laconia, Nashua, and Portsmouth, with respective growth rates of 0.95 percent, 0.79 percent, and 0.77 percent. Rural towns like Epping saw a remarkable growth rate of 3.22 percent, highlighting a trend where more urban and small-town populations are rebounding.
The overall national trends reveal that approximately three-fourths of the country’s cities have populations below 5,000, and significant growth was noted particularly in the Northeast after years of decline. Crystal Delbé, a statistician with the Census Bureau, noted that small cities in the South have shown steady growth despite other regions experiencing varied trends.
The report details that among the largest population gains in the U.S. were cities like New York, Houston, and Los Angeles, with New York leading by adding over 87,000 residents. The findings underscore a broader demographic shift across various states, with towns and cities nationwide adapting to new growth dynamics.
