Massachusetts Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase in New Hampshire
Salem, NH — A 22-year-old Massachusetts man, Brandon E. Babcock, was arrested on Monday morning following a high-speed pursuit that saw him reach speeds exceeding 140 mph on Interstate 93. The incident occurred around 7:45 a.m. during a Memorial Day traffic enforcement initiative by New Hampshire State Police.
Babcock was initially observed driving a white 2024 Corvette at 110 mph. Upon noticing police attempts to pull him over, he accelerated dramatically, weaving between lanes and passing other vehicles. The NH State Police Air Wing tracked his movements, reporting that his speed escalated to 140 mph as he fled the highway at Exit 3, ultimately taking to side roads in Windham.
Ground units were alerted by the Air Wing, enabling a trooper to successfully intercept Babcock on Johnson Road. He was subsequently arrested on multiple charges, including reckless driving and disobeying an officer. Following his arrest, Babcock was released on personal recognizance and is due to appear in Salem District Court on July 17.
In New Hampshire, reckless driving incurs a minimum penalty of a $620 fine, a 60-day suspension of one’s driver’s license, and an additional mandatory assessment. The standard fine for speeds exceeding 86 mph is $434. Authorities are emphasizing the dangers of high-speed driving, particularly during busy holiday weekends.
