Memorial Day Observed in Manchester with Honor and Reflection
MANCHESTER, NH — May 26, 2025 — Communities across the nation commemorated Memorial Day, with Manchester honoring its fallen service members through parades and solemn ceremonies. Approximately 100 residents gathered at Veterans Park, where Manchester Mayor Jay Ruais and Captain Susan Cuddy led a wreath-laying ceremony at the WWII memorial.
In a poignant address, New Hampshire Senator Maggie Hassan drew on personal ties to the conflict, highlighting her father’s participation in the Battle of the Bulge. As the nation marks the 80th anniversary of WWII’s conclusion, she underscored the ongoing relevance of the sacrifices made by veterans. “The lessons that the Greatest Generation taught us are as urgent as they have ever been,” Hassan declared, emphasizing the need to confront authoritarianism and antisemitism actively.
Private Raymond Cole, a local hero who perished during the Normandy landings, was specifically remembered, underscoring the profound impact of individual sacrifices on the community.
Additionally, Commander Daniel Beliveau of the Manchester Veterans Council reflected on the Civil War’s heavy toll, noting over 655,000 casualties. He urged present generations to rise above current political and ideological divides, echoing the necessity for unity in honoring those who served.
As attendees remembered the past, the event served as a reminder of the ongoing commitment to freedom and the importance of commemorating those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
