Local Schools Celebrate Athletic Achievements Amid Tough Weather

May 23, 2025 — Area schools recently recognized the dedication and talent of their student-athletes during several events and matches, showcasing a vibrant spring sports season despite challenging weather conditions.

On May 22, the Williston Northampton School community gathered for the annual Spring Athletics Awards Assembly at Phillips Stevens Chapel. This event celebrated the achievements of spring sports teams and highlighted outstanding senior athletes for their contributions to the school’s athletic programs.

In Granby, four student-athletes—Nathan Benson, Maggie Crawford, Quinlin Cook, and Tristan Moe—committed to continuing their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level by signing National Letters of Intent on May 23, showcasing the area’s commitment to fostering youth sports.

Meanwhile, the Northampton boys lacrosse team maintained their winning momentum by defeating South Hadley 14-3 in the Western Massachusetts Class B semifinals, with goals from seven players and a robust defensive performance.

Despite unfavorable weather this past weekend, local track and field athletes prepared for the Western Massachusetts Championship meets. Additionally, weather did not deter the Belchertown girls tennis team from successfully defending their Class B title, achieving a convincing 5-0 victory over Frontier.

In a thrilling rubber match, Northampton boys tennis faced Longmeadow for the Western Mass. Class A title. After earlier losses and wins against each other, the competition was fierce, reflecting the competitive spirit within the community.

Overall, the events celebrated not just athletic skill but also teamwork and perseverance, illustrating that despite the rainy season, the dedication of these young athletes shines brightly.
