Louisiana State Police arrested 59-year-old Connie Weeden for allegedly aiding 10 inmates in their escape from Orleans Parish Jail on May 16. This incident marks the third arrest of a woman involved in the jailbreak. Weeden, from Slidell, faces a charge of being an accessory after the fact for allegedly assisting the fugitives and was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center. It is currently unknown if she has hired legal representation.
So far, five of the escaped inmates have been captured, while five remain at large. Two other women, Cortnie Harris and Corvanntay Baptiste, were also charged as accessories in connection with the escape. Additionally, a maintenance worker named Sterling Williams was arrested for allegedly disabling the jail’s water supply to facilitate the inmates’ escape through a hole behind a toilet.
Investigators revealed that Weeden was in communication with one of the missing fugitives, Jermaine Donald, both before and after the breakout. They determined she provided cash to him via a cell phone application post-escape.
All three women charged face potential prison sentences of up to five years. Law enforcement officials from various agencies have committed to pursuing all leads until the remaining fugitives are found, emphasizing that anyone who aids or shelters these individuals will face legal consequences. The search is entering its second week, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the fugitives’ whereabouts to contact the FBI, Crimestoppers, or the Louisiana State Police. There is a combined reward of $20,000 for information that leads to arrests.
