Boston Artist Jen Kearney Brings Soulful Sound to Portsmouth
PORTSMOUTH, NH – May 23, 2023 – Jen Kearney, a Boston-based artist known for her unique blend of soul, R&B, funk, jazz, folk, and blues, is set to perform at The Press Room in Portsmouth. The evening will kick off with an opening acoustic set by singer-songwriter Jill McCracken at 7 p.m.
Kearney is gearing up to showcase her latest single "Long Division," inspired by the polarized climate of contemporary society. She began writing the song in December, reflecting on the divisiveness that has intensified over time. “Social media can connect us, but it also fosters division,” Kearney explained. The track critiques societal polarization and wealth inequality, emphasizing the urgent need for conversations surrounding the arts and women’s rights.
Recording "Long Division" at Chillhouse Studios was a swift process, marked by collaborative efforts with her band. The accompanying lyric video, created on a low budget, features evocative visuals of Boston’s waterfront, shot by Kearney herself.
Excited to perform in Portsmouth after a long absence, Kearney looks forward to her debut at The Press Room. She hinted at plans for a vinyl release this fall, expressing her preference for physical music over streaming.
