Fisher Cats Fall Short Against Patriots in 5-0 Shutout
MANCHESTER, NH – The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (16-23) suffered a tough loss as they were shut out 5-0 by the Somerset Patriots (18-21) at Delta Dental Stadium on Tuesday night. New Hampshire struggled offensively, recording just three hits throughout the game.
The Fisher Cats’ starting pitcher, Rafael Sánchez (1-2), allowed four earned runs over four innings before Alex Amalfi came in for relief. Amalfi delivered a strong performance, striking out four while yielding only two hits in 2-2/3 innings. In his last three outings, he has accumulated 12 strikeouts and allowed just two earned runs over eight frames.
Somerset struck first, capitalizing on a bases-loaded situation to take a 2-0 lead in the opening inning, courtesy of Tyler Hardman’s single. The Patriots further extended their lead with runs in the third and fourth innings, including a sacrifice fly from George Lombard Jr. and a lead-off homer from Hardman in the eighth, securing the final score at 5-0.
The Fisher Cats’ designated hitter, Yohendrick Piñango, remained a bright spot, extending his on-base streak to ten games, while continuing his impressive May batting average of .388. However, despite putting runners in scoring positions, the Fisher Cats were unable to convert their opportunities, with the Patriots’ bullpen delivering seven scoreless frames and striking out 11. The Fisher Cats will look to bounce back in their next matchup against Somerset.
