During a recent traffic stop in Ohio, officers encountered an unusual situation when they found a pet raccoon named “Chewy” in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. The raccoon was spotted with a glass methamphetamine pipe in its mouth, leading the officer to humorously remark that it had just provided “evidence” during the stop. Upon further inspection, the officers discovered more drug paraphernalia, including a significant quantity of methamphetamine, crack cocaine, and additional used meth pipes.
The driver, 55-year-old Victoria Vidal from Akron, was stopped due to having an active warrant and a suspended license. She was charged with three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and cited for driving under suspension. Authorities indicated that further charges could be applied depending on the lab results concerning the crack cocaine.
Despite the bizarre circumstances, officers confirmed that owning a raccoon is legal in Ohio, and Vidal had the necessary documentation. After the encounter, the raccoon was safely placed in a carrier. The Springfield Township Police Department reached out to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for assistance in rehoming Chewy to ensure its safety.
