A single-engine Mooney M20TN crashed in Tennessee on Saturday morning, resulting in the deaths of three people aboard. The crash occurred south of the Upper Cumberland Regional Airport in Sparta around 11:50 a.m., as reported by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Dean Selby, the airport director, mentioned that the airport was alerted about the aircraft’s distress when the Memphis Air Traffic Control Center reported a loss of communication.
The plane, which had taken off from Alabama, was descending towards the airport when it went down in a remote area. Emergency management, fire, and rescue crews, along with volunteers, conducted a search and located the crash site after the airport deployed an aerial search aircraft. The FAA arrived on the scene a few hours post-crash, and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is set to lead the investigation, arriving the following day. Selby indicated that the identities of the victims will be withheld until their next of kin are informed.
