Press Release: Providence Man Admits to Defrauding Car Dealerships
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom announced that Adalberto Mauricio Romero, a 28-year-old resident of Providence, has pleaded guilty to participating in a fraudulent scheme targeting automobile dealerships in Rhode Island and New Hampshire.
Romero was charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud. In May 2022, he attempted to defraud a New Hampshire dealership by allegedly presenting a fake driver’s license to secure financing for a Land Rover valued at $95,713. This fraudulent document was a crucial component of an online application used to deceive the dealership’s financing program.
Romero is scheduled for sentencing on July 24.
Another individual involved in this conspiracy, Dennis Odoom, was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison on March 25. He will also serve three years of supervised release and was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.
This case underscores ongoing efforts by federal authorities to combat fraud in the automotive industry. The U.S. Attorney’s Office continues to emphasize the importance of holding individuals accountable for deceptive practices that undermine trust in legitimate business transactions. Further updates on Romero’s sentencing will be provided as they become available.
