Seniors Shine as KSC Secures Crucial Split Against RIC

Keene State College Softball Team Battles to Split with Rhode Island College

KEENE, N.H. — The Keene State College (KSC) softball team secured a crucial split in a doubleheader against Rhode Island College (RIC) on Friday, with key performances from the senior class. KSC won the opener 4-1 but narrowly lost the nightcap 5-3, showcasing resilience as they strive for a berth in the Little East Conference (LEC) tournament.

In the first game, seniors Carissa Miller and Lilah Demmy combined to deliver a strong pitching performance, allowing just three hits. Liv Whittier played a pivotal role on offense, driving in three runs, including a two-run double that ignited the scoring in the third inning.

The Owls started strong but faced adversity in the second game, battling from a 4-0 deficit. Molly Murray shone offensively, cutting the lead to 4-3 with a two-run single in the fifth. However, RIC’s Ashleigh von der Linden managed to escape further damage, securing the victory for her team.

With the split, KSC improves to 16-16 overall (5-7 LEC), maintaining a slim edge over Vermont State University Castleton for a playoff spot. The team now sets its sights on UMass-Dartmouth, where they will face off on April 29 at 3:00 p.m. The Owls aim to capitalize on this momentum as they enter the final stretch of the regular season and strive to qualify for the LEC tournament for the first time since 2021.
