New Hampshire is gearing up for the inauguration of its new Kid Governor, 10-year-old Jade Adams. Elected by her peers in November, Jade is a fifth-grader at Wells Memorial School in Harrisville. She will be sworn in alongside the six-member Kid Executive Council on Jan. 28. The program was initiated in 2018 by NH Civics and the NH Institute of Politics as an affiliate of a national Kid Governor program created by the Connecticut Democracy Center.
Jade ran her campaign on the platform of banning animal testing, a cause she felt passionate about after researching the issue. Her commitment to this cause and her desire to make a difference led her to participate in the kid governor program. She won the primary at her school with the support of her classmates, who played various roles in her campaign, showing their enthusiasm and dedication to her cause.
Jade’s three-point plan to ban animal testing includes encouraging the purchase of cruelty-free items, organizing a letter-writing campaign to the governor’s office, and educating students about animal cruelty and the importance of treating animals with kindness. She is looking forward to becoming a better public speaker, delivering speeches, and engaging in her platform to make a positive impact.
Jade expressed her gratitude to her teacher, classmates, family, friends, and the animals who inspired her campaign. Her teacher played a significant role in guiding and supporting her throughout the process. Jade’s passion, determination, and commitment to her cause are sure to make her a successful Kid Governor of New Hampshire as she takes on the responsibilities of advocating for animal rights in the state.
