A Ski Resort in New Hampshire Embraces Technology to Compete with Industry Leaders

Beaver Mountain in Garden City, Utah, is being transformed by entrepreneur Erik Mogensen’s high-tech system to increase efficiency. Mogensen, who owns Entabeni Systems, bought Black Mountain in New Hampshire and is using it as a lab for his consultancy. His systems collect data to inform decisions on snowmaking, grooming, and more.

Many small, independent resorts like Beaver Mountain have benefited from Entabeni’s technology, including streamlining ticketing and season pass systems. One client, Kristy Seeholzer from Beaver Mountain, noted the software’s effectiveness but also mentioned some challenges in implementation.

Not everyone is on board with the increasing use of technology in skiing. Some, like Sam Shirley, feel that it complicates the skiing experience. On the other hand, larger companies like Vail Resorts are using data-driven approaches to improve the guest experience and increase revenue through multi-resort passes.

Despite the trend towards technology and data-driven decision-making in the ski industry, Mogensen believes that smaller resorts like Black Mountain can offer a unique experience that larger conglomerates cannot match. He emphasizes the sense of community and authenticity that can be found at independent ski areas.

Overall, the ski industry is evolving with the integration of technology, but Mogensen and others are working to maintain the charm and authenticity of smaller resorts like Beaver Mountain.
