Arsonist sought by police following overnight fire at Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s home

Pennsylvania State Police are searching for an arsonist who caused damage to Gov. Josh Shapiro’s official residence in Harrisburg. Shapiro and his family were evacuated and unharmed during the incident, which occurred at 2 a.m. Sunday. The couple has four children, although it is unclear if any of the adult children were home at the time.

Shapiro had offered Passover well wishes just hours before the attack, sharing a photo of his Seder table. The State Police are conducting a multiagency investigation into the arson, classifying it as an intentional act. A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator.

Shapiro, a Democrat, was elected as governor in 2022 after serving as the state’s attorney general. He was reportedly considered as a potential vice presidential candidate alongside Kamala Harris in last year’s presidential race. Despite not being selected, Shapiro remains a popular governor with a favorable approval rating of 59%, as reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer. This approval rating is higher than that of Taylor Swift, a Pennsylvania native, who scored 46% in comparison.

The attack on Shapiro’s residence adds a concerning element to his tenure as governor and raises questions about the safety and security of Pennsylvania’s elected officials.
