Hampshire County Cricket Club has brought in New Zealand’s Brett Hampton to replace injured all-rounder Jack Edwards for the start of the County Championship season. Edwards, who was signed as an overseas player, sustained a knee injury while playing for New South Wales and faces at least six weeks of recovery. The 33-year-old Hampton, a right-handed batsman and medium-fast bowler, has played for Northern Districts for the past ten years and has impressive stats in first-class cricket. He has scored 581 runs and taken 23 wickets in the Plunket Shield this season, with overall averages of 30.66 with the bat and 27.70 with the ball. Hampton expressed his excitement to play in the County Championship and to help Hampshire push for the title. Hampshire, who were Division One runners-up last season, will kick off their new red-ball campaign at home against Yorkshire on Friday. The team is hopeful that Hampton’s experience and skills will contribute to their success in the upcoming season.
