The school district issued no-trespass orders against the parents, which have since expired, leading to a lawsuit claiming their First Amendment rights were violated. The parents are seeking a court order against the school district to continue wearing the wristbands at future school events.
Governor Chris Sununu signed the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act into law, stating it ensures fairness and safety in women’s sports by maintaining integrity and competitive balance. Similar laws are in place in about half of the states across the country. School district officials in Bow, where the second case is taking place, defend their actions in barring the parents from wearing the wristbands, stating they were protecting the transgender girl from intimidation and harassment during the game. The lawsuits highlight the ongoing debate and legal battles surrounding transgender athletes’ rights and inclusion in school sports.
