An owl named “Jack Pots” found herself in an unusual situation after flying into Gate City Casino in New Hampshire. The barred owl was rescued by Maria Colby, a wildlife rehabilitator, after perching on a TV and then a slot machine within the casino. Colby described Jack Pots as shaken and nervous due to the noise in the casino, which amplified her sensitive hearing. It is believed that Jack Pots may have entered the casino during mating season in search of a nesting spot.
After the rescue, Jack Pots was taken to the Wings of the Dawn Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and Bird Sanctuary, where she is being held in a flight cage to prepare for her release back into the wild. Colby, who has had numerous rescues throughout her career, described this rescue as unique due to the location of the owl being inside a casino.
The owl is expected to be released back into the wild on Saturday, following a few days of recovery at the rehabilitation center. Despite the unusual circumstances, Jack Pots is said to be in good spirits and ready to return to her natural habitat. The wildlife rescue serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting and conserving wildlife, even in unexpected locations.
