Samson Racioppi, known for his involvement in controversial public demonstrations, recently found himself facing opposition in his efforts to obtain a law license. Despite graduating from law school and passing the bar exam, Racioppi has faced pushback in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire in his quest to become a licensed attorney.
Racioppi’s supporters claim that he is being subjected to a political litmus test due to his right-wing activism, which includes organizing a “straight pride” parade in Boston and attending a rally in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6, 2021. The Character and Fitness Committee in New Hampshire questioned Racioppi about his involvement with Super Happy Fun America, a group known for controversial public demonstrations and activism.
Racioppi’s application for a law license in New Hampshire is now under review by the state’s Supreme Court, where a final decision will be made. His involvement with a 2014 criminal incident in Maine, as well as his political activism, may have played a role in the committee’s decision to recommend against his admission to the bar.
Despite criticisms from his supporters, including attorney William Gens who hired Racioppi as a paralegal, the process to determine Racioppi’s eligibility to practice law remains confidential. While Racioppi has faced setbacks in his legal career, his future as a licensed attorney in New Hampshire remains uncertain.
