Trans advocates are concerned that this move seeks to erase transgender individuals from public life and could lead to more discrimination. The Department of Education has launched investigations into athletic associations that do not comply with the new policies.
In contrast, Vermont laws allow transgender students to participate in sports that align with their gender identity, with the state attorney general promising to uphold these protections. As of now, there have been no federal investigations into Vermont’s athletic policies.
