Connections, a clothing store located on South Allen Street, has been providing stylish finds for students since 1996. In 2019, former employee Theresa Ritzman took over as the owner and has since made several changes to the store’s operation. Ritzman explained the challenges that come with running a clothing store, such as deciding what items to sell and when to sell them. She attends events where vendors showcase items, which she later sells at Connections in upcoming seasons. Ritzman emphasized the importance of staying in tune with what is happening at Penn State to determine what to buy for the store.
To help with decision-making, Ritzman includes her employees, many of whom are young adults in the area, in the process of choosing stock for the store. Employees such as Avery O’Haire and Mary Fick shared how Ritzman values their input and teaches them about the fashion and clothing industry. Some of the employees’ favorite brands carried by the store include Free People and Boys Lie.
Connections is open seven days a week, with hours varying throughout the week. The store provides a collaborative and inclusive environment that fosters creativity and learning within the fashion industry. Customers can expect to find trendy and stylish pieces that cater to a diverse range of preferences and styles.
