Sunrun Installation Services, represented by attorneys David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn, and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English, is facing a civil rights lawsuit filed by former employee George Edward Steins. The lawsuit, filed on September 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke, alleges that Steins was wrongly charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson due to Sunrun’s failure to inform the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection about his employment status.
According to the complaint, if Sunrun had notified the department that Steins no longer held a home improvement contractor license and had left the company in 2017, he would not have faced the charges. The charges against Steins were eventually dismissed in May 2024.
The case, titled Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al, has been assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer. The legal team representing Sunrun in this lawsuit includes Sullivan, Finn, and Hall from McCarter & English.
This lawsuit highlights the importance of companies being transparent with regulatory authorities about the status of their employees and licenses to avoid legal issues. Sunrun Installation Services will need to defend themselves against the allegations made by Steins in court. The outcome of this case will have implications for how companies handle employee departures and licensing matters in the future.
