Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has asked Pope Francis for assistance in securing the release of captives held by Russia during a meeting in the Vatican. Zelenskyy has also invited the Vatican to participate in a conference on prisoners of war in Canada later this month. Meanwhile, Zelenskyy expressed hope that the war with Russia would end by 2025 and sought military support from Germany. In another development, a Russian court ordered the arrest of CNN journalist Nick Paton Walsh for reporting from Ukrainian-held territory in Russia. Russia has also claimed capturing frontline villages in eastern Ukraine. Ukraine is investigating the death of a journalist who was held in Russian captivity, while a woman working for a Russian tank factory has been sentenced to 12-and-a-half years for treason for selling military information to Ukraine. Additionally, Russia sentenced two men to 16 years each for setting railways on fire on the orders of Ukrainian security services. Finnish officials have detained a Russian far-right neo-Nazi commander suspected of committing war crimes in Ukraine in 2014. And the constant conflicts and tensions persisting between Russia and Ukraine continue to escalate, leading to numerous legal battles and human rights violations.
