Fisher-Price recalls certain components from infant swings

Fisher-Price has recalled two components of its Snuga Swings after reports of five infant deaths related to suffocation while using the product for sleep. The company is offering a $25 refund to consumers who remove the recalled parts. However, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is calling for a full product recall and reimbursement to customers due to safety concerns.

Safety experts warn against using inclined sleeper products like baby swings and rockers for sleep, as they can pose a suffocation risk. Congress has banned inclined sleepers for infants with an incline greater than 10 degrees.

Fisher-Price has faced multiple recalls of infant products in recent years. In 2019, millions of Rock ‘n Play Sleepers were recalled after reports of infant deaths. The company had also been warned about the potential dangers of the product but continued to market it. Infant deaths have also been linked to the Rock ‘n Glide Soother.

In 2022, Fisher-Price warned consumers about infant deaths linked to its Infant-to-Toddler Rockers and Newborn-to-Toddler Rockers, but did not recall the products. The company advised that the rockers should not be used for sleep and could be safe if babies are properly restrained and monitored. Fisher-Price has received reports of at least 100 infant deaths linked to the Rock ‘n Play and remains under scrutiny for its handling of safety concerns.
