Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has embarked on a crucial trip to the United States, where he will present his “victory plan” to end the ongoing war with Russia to President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and former President Donald Trump. During his visit, Zelenskyy toured a Pennsylvania weapons factory and thanked workers for their contribution to Ukraine’s war effort. The factory manufactures 155mm artillery shells which are crucial for Ukraine’s defense. Zelenskyy’s peace proposals have not been disclosed but are expected to include steps to strengthen Ukraine’s weapons capabilities and secure its place in the world’s security architecture. He is also pushing for permission to use Western-supplied long-range weapons to target military sites deep inside Russia, a move that has been met with resistance from the US. The visit coincides with the US preparing a new $375m military aid package for Ukraine, including patrol boats and additional ammunition. Zelenskyy’s trip is a high-stakes endeavor as he seeks support from the US and its allies to end the conflict with Russia and achieve a lasting peace in the region.
